Season Summary
2000 saw the first full varsity team – seniors on the roster (but not many) – plus Cedar Park’s first foray into UIL competition, with district 17-AAAA.

Although logging a disappointing 3-7 record overall (2-3 in district), this team was just a couple of plays away from a vastly better mark. Two losses came in double OT, on the road, to playoff teams- one of them our district’s own eventual champion. If CP had managed wins in those two games, and held on to a fourth-quarter lead they lost against Lampasas, the team would have finished 6-4 overall and made the playoffs as district co-champs. Even with the two double-OT losses, merely holding that late lead against the Badgers would have ensured a 3-2 third-place district finish and a trip to post-season play, even with a 4-6 overall record.

Not only that, but three of this team's four non-district losses came against teams that each won or shared their district titles- in 5A leagues! Two of those (Copperas Cove and San Marcos) were ranked in the state’s 5A top ten! It reamins the toughest schedule Cedar Park has ever faced, as four of the seven losses were to teams that won district championships and three other victorious opponents also qualified for post-season play, meaning seven of the ten games played were against playoff teams. Not coincidentally, those were the seven losses.

Since four of those seven losses could have easily been wins based on the outcome of one single play, it was clear that the Timberwolves were on verge of being a very good team, despite their completely misleading 2000 record. They were literally just four plays away from being a 7-3 district co-champion.
