Season Summary
2004 was
the finest season ever for
Cedar Park, the year when the program fully came of age.
The team was only the second outright football champion in the history of LISD (CP’s 2001 team being the first). They were the first unbeaten, untied league champion of the north Austin area 5A district (called 15-AAAAA at the time) in over a decade.
The defense ended the season as the third-ranked 5A defense in all of Texas, and pitched three consecutive shutouts at one point, one of them over a team that would advance all the way to the state 5A division I regional finals. The Gang Green defense put together a streak of 14 consecutive shutout quarters spanning five games, and 19 straight quarters without allowing a touchdown.
The offense boasted two thousand-yard rushers, rang up approximately 4,700 yards of total offense, and scored 344 points.
After two unexpected upsets to open the season, the Timberwolves didn’t lose again for three months, tearing off eleven straight wins and advancing all the way to the Region II finals before falling to Lufkin, the ninth-ranked high school team in America.
Along the way, nearly every important school record was rewritten. The team led the area in All-Centex players, was voted the Central Texas Team of the Year, and boasted the Central Texas Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. The 2004 Timberwolves ended their season ranked tenth in Texas, and beat two top-ten ranked teams along the way, and two others that spent time in the top ten during the season.
Head Coach Mark Weaver
decided this would be a fitting final season, retiring with a 37-28 record at
Cedar Park, and posting 105 wins in his career.
